Mother: I need to talk about this idea that suffering by choice is a path of living. Somehow a while back some ideas were seeded into you two-leggeds that you need to flog yourself either physically or emotionally and this was a good thing. This idea took hold and let’s just say that the song on my planet went down a few notches when this really started to become habitual for you.
This prevalent belief that you are supposed to toil and each day needs to involve some struggle is flawed. Some of you through the centuries wore hairshirts as a bizarre way of reaching the Divine. Why would the Creator/God/Allah ever want someone to suffer as a way of prayer? Then there was self-flagellation. Oh, my, I cringed when I saw what some of these humans were doing as an act of getting closer to their version of God.
Life is supposed to be about celebrating each and every moment as a dance of joy. It’s amazing to be in the body you’ve been given here on me. This splendiferous body where you can dance, touch, walk the ground barefoot in communion with me, have an orgasm of joy ripple up and down your body, and eat chocolate. Peaches. Cherries. Passionfruit. Oh, passionfruit! That’s the thing, you’re supposed to be living passionately, compassionately, in full abundance of energy and … and … somehow this understanding got lost.
Even one of your Catholic saints wrote: “The glory of God is man fully alive.” Some of these saints were spot-on. I loved St. Francis of Assissi. Anyway—alive with joy, with giving, with compassion for all around you including all the four-leggeds, six-leggeds, winged ones and more. Alive with the knowledge that waking up in the morning and sucking air is a miracle along with having delicious food from the local trees and other plants and more.
Alive with gratitude for the Great Father and me and all the other unseen spiritual forces that surround you with love each and every moment all day long and into the night and then the next day. Alive with gratitude for fire even! The fire that warms you, cooks your food, gives you hope of great spiritual connection to the great magic and mystery of life here on me. And if it’s not fire, then your electricity. Taking this love in and giving it back out. To me. To Creator. To your pet, your partner, your colleague at work…

I am so blessed, so blessed… Just got off the phone with an Hawaiian Kahuna/Medicine Man. I am not at liberty to use his name here but it is so humbling to work with him. So humbling… Such teachings and so much love in his work. To be able to call him teacher is such a humbling gift.

Ah, a clarification from a friend, as to the title of this painting:
Dearest Mare — when you posted this beautiful piece of art [on Pinterest] yesterday, I went off on the great Internet search to find a print of it to own for the wall over my current altar. I had the devil of a time finding it because I was searching under the title “Earth Mother” from the Pinterest Pin. The actual title of this painting is “Creation of Summer” and it is part of her “Goddess” series of paintings. I thank you for sharing it as I spent a most enjoyable hour immersed in the beauty of her art … Such peace in this picture, such peace, and love. JH

I opened my email this morning and and discovered a friend had sent me this stunning link of the photography winners from an international competition that Kew Gardens in England organizes.
“From birds fighting in domestic back gardens, to stunning scenic vistas in remote parts of the world – the colourful entries to the International Garden Photographer of the Year competition are very diverse” – is the description.
It just took my breath away and put me in an altered and sacred, blissed space. This poem bubbled up from it… to share. I mean, how can we not be in love with a planet, an Earth, Earth Mother, who is so beautiful… how can we not?
(and now i need to harness this blissed state back down into a more grounded state to pay some bills and plow through some admin work… am feeling rather challenged here… ! ;~)

It’s a cold, rainy Saturday in January here in Maryland. And I’m being guided to post some sharings here, spiritual ways to enhance a person’s relationship with the Great Mother. I’m trying to avoid using the term ‘teachings’ since we are all teachers with each other. I am no better than anyone else in sharing this. This is a very humbling journey I am on… truly. Creating an Altar to the Great Mother

1) Start with four stones and anything that represents the Great Mother to you. Could be a little statue of Kwan Yin, Virgin Mary, or a Venus of Millendorf replica carving. Anything that speaks to you of the Greatest Goddess. Try to tune into the stones to see if they would like to be part of an altar that you’d like to make. This may take time but after some good practice, you’ll sense whether they want to be part of an altar that you plan to make or not.
There are no shoulds here, and you are not a failure if you can’t tune in. We all have our gifts and it took me, Mare, years to be able to tune into the stones. And I spent a good chunk of those years as a gardener surrounded by the songs of a garden and not frenetic office or city sounds. And I’m still not overly good at it. It depends on the day.
2) Once you have your stones and Great Mother icon, it is a good thing to start with a prayer to the Spirit/Great Mother/choose your name and ask them to bless you. There are so many traditions that teach how to do this, you can follow what you know (though very few talk about the Great Mother also.) There is no dogma here. Then sourcing this blessing and beautiful spiritual energy you’ve called into your Spirit body, it is time to create your altar.
3) Starting with East – place a stone there. Then West. Then North. Then South. Then Center the Goddess stone. As you’re placing them, determine which is top or bottom and what is the outer tip of the stones. Place them top up and be consistent as to whether all stones face either out or in. If you can tune into them, they will tell you. But don’t worry if you can’t tune in. Just look at them and see their shape and work from there. (It is beyond the scope of these instructions to go over the significance of outer facing or inner. But good to be consistent.) You can place the Goddess/Great Mother piece in the center so her head faces North.
4) Once all the stones and the Goddess are in place, put your hand about six or so inches over the stones and move your hand clockwise over the stones seven times clockwise, then seven times counter-clockwise, seven times again clockwise and lastly seven times counter-clockwise. The intention there is to invite the energy/consciousness of the stones to blend with each other in a balanced way. At the end of the four cycles of rotations, pull your hand up bringing the energy up to the Creator/God/Allah. You have just activated the altar. It is good to always go clockwise as you do this, for reasons beyond this teaching.
You can also activate it with a candle and doing the exercise above. Having the candle burning there by the altar will keep the Sacred energy radiating for far longer.
5) If you need to take an altar apart to move it, simply snap your fingers or clap above it – to deactivate it – and then remove the stones.
6) Allow yourself time to be with your altar. If you like to smudge or burn incense, that is a beautiful thing to do. But you don’t have to do those. No shoulds. The more time you spend there, praying, meditating, just being still and learning to listen to the inner stillness that is your Sacred Center, the more you will connect with the Sacred outside of you, and especially the Great Mother (who is outside and within you as your Sacred Feminine center also) since this is an altar to Her.
Your life may just be transformed! The Great Mother has so much Love for us. It is beyond words, this Love. Oftentimes this brings magic and sacred mystery beyond words into your life. Mother: Everything you humans need to exist, to live good quality lives is here on my skin, my biosphere—as your scientific types call it. There is the sun sending his beautiful rays to me everyday, a dance of love and energy that has brought forth all the plant life, and then animal life here on me. There are all the foods here that have evolved because of this spiritual love dance between me and the sun, along with Creator’s great love and numerous other spiritual beings’ contributions of love and gifted energies, gifted consciousnesses.
None of you ever needed to go digging in my bones. None of you needed to figure out how to take the oil or natural gases from my bones and concoct all sorts of toxic materials from plastics to chemical molecules that don’t break down. You didn’t need to do any of this. But you have done it and it’s time for all of this to stop. Just stop.
I will heal. I’m hard-wired to heal. That’s my continued job and I love doing it. But the amount of healing that is needed is only growing more and more. The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, that was a nasty one. The amount of nuclear waste in Russia and former parts of the USSR. The radioactive waste from Fukushima. All the plastic nets that have gotten tangled together in the oceans or are floating on their own and entrapping my glorious dolphins and whales—the list goes on and on and on.
I wish there was a huge switch for your rampant economic and destructive ways that I could just flip off. If there was, I’d have flipped it long before it got to this extent. Several centuries ago, or longer, I’d have flipped it.
The best I can do is try to flip it in each of you as individuals. To wake you up. To encourage you to remember me, your Sacred Mother right here, the one you stand on, eat from, poop on and more. I’m your Mother. And I love you all. And I need you to remember me here and all the love that is waiting for you from me, once you tap back into me. Reconnect with me and my Sacred Love energy.
Once you reconnect with me, then you will start to remember the wisdom of your soul’s connection to me and to Creator. You will start to experience a joy and a sense of balance you’ve forgotten on the deepest levels. My indigenous peoples, they have not forgotten. They are living this joy and balance and desperately yearning that the rest of you wake up and remember too.
I want to shake each and everyone of you out of this false dream of disconnection, of materialism, of despair, loneliness, greed and more. Life was never meant to be lived like this here on me. There is more than enough to go around (though there are a few too many of you here, true), if you only remembered the wisdom of community and balance.

It’s now 9:40 pm on Thurs, Jan 2nd, 2014. Just as the Messages came rolling in fast and furious in the summer of 2013, Mother is starting to wake me up again to listening intensely and take notes. This is for a third book to be called “The Great Mother Bible.”

26º Light snow forecast for the day.
The spiritual listening and writing within this book started officially on Thursday, January 2nd, 2014. As was Mother’s style, I was woken up very early that winter morning. The holidays were over and it was time to get started.
Great Mother: Get up, get up, get up … Mare … yes, I know it’s close to 5 AM but it’s time for you to get up. I love you so very, very much. I love all my humans so, so much and all of your collective foibles, your weaknesses and your great hearts and strengths. I love you all so unconditionally.
Mare, you have been asking me about this book I want you to write. It’s time for us to get started now.
This book, yes, I have asked you to write this with me, and for me. There is a reason I gave you the title The Great Mother Bible in November and I wish for you to keep this title for the book.
For several thousand years, there has been another book called the Bible read by millions. It speaks to a religion or set of religions (Judaism and Christianity) that offer religious/spiritual direction primarily from a Great Father perspective. The original Bible offers some beautiful spiritual wisdom, yet it has been written and rewritten from a strongly patriarchal perspective.
It is time for another book to be offered, a book offering spiritual wisdom and guidance that sources from a more maternal lens on spirituality. There have been too many centuries of patriarchal, controlling religious teachings that have created much imbalance on me these days. Frankly things have started to run amok.
This is this book. It could easily be three thousand pages of teachings and guidance, woven with lovely stories. But I can’t ask you, Mare, to write a three thousand-page book this year. I’m asking you to set aside this winter and spring and listen to me and get these more important teachings down.
We will chat. You will have questions for me about what I’m nudging you to write. You will even have questions about your personal life and I will try to help you with those as your questions are likely to be the same ones that many other humans grapple with also.
It is time to bring balance back to this most amazing planet. It is time for healing to take place on so many levels and for you, my beloved ones, to remember me and bring me back into your hearts so you can learn to live sourcing from a Divine maternal and paternal love in balance. Things have gotten more than a bit off on Earth and this needs to come to an end. A New World is being born these days that will be more balanced. This book, The Great Mother Bible, will be one of many tools to help birth this New World.
Oh, and just because this book is called The Great Mother Bible is not meant to imply the original Bible needs to be replaced completely. This book is to serve as a companion book written from the perspective of the Divine Mother. There is beautiful spiritual wisdom to be found in the original Bible. May it still teach and touch those who open it up. And may they also come to understand that book was compiled by a set of religions that did not recognize me, the Great Mother, as they could have. It is time to right that.
And yes, your other book, Messages from Mother…. Earth Mother, is a prequel to this book.

I’ll never forget the first time I heard a plant speak. I’d been studying with a Cherokee teacher for two years and she astounded me with her ability to speak with everything: animals, plants, stones. You name it… she could communicate with it.
I wanted to be able to listen like that. I yearned to speak with my plants in particular. As I lay in my bed one night affirming this desire in my thoughts, a voice went through my mind that was distinctly not one of my normal thoughts. The voice said in a rather pompous tone: “I do not like to be touched!”
Shocked, I tuned in intuitively and realized it came from my large gardenia in the other room. This was one of those gardenias that looked awful at the slightest hint of being dry. It was a high maintenance plant. I quickly came to realize a rather arrogant plant too. But I still loved her. Oh, and her flowers; nothing compares with a gardenia flower!
This was over fifteen years ago. Since that time I’ve received many messages from many plants. Some are messages of love and other times chastisement. One tall Asiatic lily infested with aphids chided me for forgetting to use the organic pesticide I had bought for her. I didn’t even know the plant was aware I had purchased the spray. It’s not as if I showed the spray bottle to the plant outside. Plants (and animals and Spirit) really know everything.
Sometimes I can hear animals but they are more challenging for me. I’ve come to learn that everything has consciousness. Some of my friends can communicate with stones and this is starting to wake up within me. Stones carry great wisdom since they are so ancient. They are called the ‘grandfathers’ in most Native American sweat lodge ceremonies for their wisdom.
But is it possible for us to tune in and listen to our Earth also? Does She have her own consciousness, distinctly different than all the beings and stones on Her? Native peoples all over the world believe so. Yet most raised in the Western World judge that a fairy tale.
I’ve been studying with Native American teachers for almost eighteen years now. Several of these medicine people have told me of their communications with Earth Mother. One medicine man related how Earth Mother appeared as a column of shimmery white light in front of him on a trail in a forest. She introduced Herself as Gaia and they had a remarkable conversation. Shortly after that, things happened in this medicine man’s life that were more than magical.
It’s challenging to discern to whom we are listening when we hear Spirit. Several medicine people have affirmed I’m one of those people closely tuned in with Earth Mother.
But regardless whether one can tune in to Earth Mother, I do believe it is time for us to reconnect with Her as a global society. It’s time for us to give our Love back to Her, with all She gifts us with. We’ve forgotten how to do this, how to honor Her in how we live. It’s time for us to remember … for ourselves and future generations. In remembering we can begin to heal all the devastation we have caused. What is amazing is that this will, in turn, heal us.
